Decodable Addition Story Problems

How should you utilize this tool with your early reader? Take these worksheets outside to act out, draw, and/or visualize.

This PDF contains 14 pages of decodable addition story problems (early word problems). All problems are addition problems within 20.

• 5 pages focus on the short vowel words with consonant blends (one page per short vowel)
• 5 pages focus on r-controlled vowel sounds
• 3 pages focus on common vowel teams (ee, ea, ai)

Each page has scaffolded, different levels of difficulty in decoding and adding. The top problem is the simplest to read and has the smallest addends. The bottom problem is the most challenging read, longer, and will have the larger addends.

Don't forget to review the words at the top for high frequency words or irregular patterns. This pdf includes 1 BONUS Subtraction Story page!
